Efficiently modularization of packaging machines

14.07.2020

As part of the HEITEC "Packaging" portfolio, the webinar "Efficiently modularization of packaging machines" took place in May together with SIEMENS Digital Industries Production Machines.

In the 60-minute web seminar, Michael Rögner, HEITEC project engineer for automation technology, and Siemens speakers Dr. Holger Grzonka, Head of Promotion Packaging Solutions, and application engineer Joachim Koch, presented the 120 participants the benefits and a possible procedure for introducing a "configure-to-order" workflow for packaging machines. This is a tool to support sales and helps to optimize the configuration of the machine for the end customer. A plausibility check is just as possible as the output of clock rates and final prices. This workflow includes both, sales and the mechanical, software and digital engineering fractions of a packaging machine manufacturer.

"The aim of a configure-to-order process is to achieve shorter lead times for customer-specific machine orders through modularization and configuration," said Dr. Grzonka, "Higher software quality, faster commissioning and fewer unplanned service calls ensure significant cost savings." All in all, this means optimizing the company's profitability. Potential savings of 30 to 60% are possible compared to the previous engineering effort.

In the practice-oriented webinar, the speakers demonstrated the requirements and basics for introducing a continuous order flow as well as the generation of the SIEMENS PLC and motion program and the user interface. "Since the configure-to-order workflow is universally applicable, the benefits of this process can also be transferred to other automation systems," adds Michael Rögner. "HEITEC is at your side as a SIEMENS partner, but also as a system-independent integrator when introducing the process."
