Web-based HMI development

Leading in biotechnology with the latest Siemens HMI technology. From conception to implementation, covering the entire development process from the feasibility study and development documentation to the complete development and its realisation.

Realisation

In a challenging endeavour to advance biotechnology, our client was looking for a robust, web-based Human Machine Interface (HMI) solution based on Siemens' WinCC Unified technology. This project required seamless integration across multiple interfaces, advanced visualisation tools and adaptability for future expansion. Our task was to handle the entire development cycle, from initial feasibility testing, detailed documentation and UI/UX design to final implementation - an end-to-end approach to deliver innovative functionality for a critical industry.

The six-month project involved a team of three software engineers and a requirements engineer who worked closely together to ensure an efficient workflow and focused development. The team began with a thorough feasibility study to assess the technical requirements and system compatibility. We then developed a comprehensive development framework that included the software architecture and design documentation. For optimal usability, we designed dynamic SVG elements and customisable faceplates to ensure an intuitive, responsive user interface.

The development phase included hands-on programming with WinCC Unified, focussing on custom web controls and recipe handling to meet the client's specific requirements. We implemented component features with dynamic elements - such as real-time appearance customisation - and integrated HTML, CSS and JavaScript to ensure a modern and adaptable front-end. Testing included PC runtime simulations and verification of MTP access via VNC to confirm seamless operation in various scenarios.

Customer benefits

Our customer now benefits from a state-of-the-art, web-based HMI system that is customised to their needs.

With optimised recipe management, customised control functions and a user-friendly interface, operators can work more efficiently and safely, reducing errors and increasing productivity, while the web-based design offers access from multiple devices and future-proof adaptability, making it a scalable solution that will grow with the customer's evolving needs.
