Universal sub-rack solution for use in railway technology
In close cooperation with its customer, a supplier of electronics for railway technology, HEITEC developed a universally applicable housing and system solution that can be used for various applications in trains. Thanks to its modular design, it can be flexibly adapted to the respective application and enables simple built-to-order configuration.Brief technical description
- HeiPac subrack in combination with customised components
- CPCI hybrid backplane (PSU, CPCI, CPCI-Serial and conventional PCI slots in use with adapter kit)
- D x W x H: 240 mm x 40HP x 4U
- Optional fan kit with two fans in a customised design for each required performance class (temperature range -20°C to +70°C)
- Optional 19" connection kit
Optional 19" adapter kit
Realisation
In order to provide a system that is as versatile as possible, the decision was made to use the universal HeiPac Vario subrack system in combination with specific special components.
In terms of width, the customer deliberately opted for a 40HP variant of the subrack system so that two subracks could be installed next to each other in a 19" cabinet. For this purpose, HEITEC developed a 19" connection kit specially adapted to the subrack so that two systems can be installed directly next to each other. Of course, it is also possible to install just one subrack with a width of 40HP in a 19" rack. A specially developed 19" adapter kit enables easy installation of the subrack in the enclosure. It is also possible to obtain the subrack for wall mounting. To match the subrack, HEITEC has developed a corresponding card guide for 4.4" drive modules and a CPCI hybrid backplane. In addition to two PSU slots, the backplane also contains CPCI, CPCI serial and conventional PCI slots. This also demonstrates the versatility of the system. Another special feature of the backplane is the customised system management interface.
In the respective railway applications, but also when used in the industrial sector, the internal configurations can vary greatly and therefore also the heat generation. In order to be able to react flexibly here, the subrack has been equipped with an optional fan kit with different performance classes so that temperature ranges from -20°C to +70°C can be covered depending on the configuration of the device.
A special logistics concept was offered to the customer for this compact, versatile system so that the customer can optimise the flexibility of the system. Depending on the enquiry, the delivery form is adapted to the respective requirements in order to facilitate the necessary final configuration for the customer.
