Industrial PC for medical laser applications
HEITEC supports a leading eye laser company with innovative electronics development, testing technology and the design and integration of medical PCs for the customer's end application. The laser in the system is used for refractive surgery and is used to treat short- and long-sightedness, astigmatism and presbyopia.Brief technical description

Realisation
The medical PC preconfigured by HEITEC according to the customer's specifications provides the doctor performing the eye operation with the necessary information via a graphical interface. The PC is used to enter data for the attending physician, which determines where laser treatment is to take place and at what intensity. This information is then transferred from the PC to a so-called "treatment controller", which controls the laser. However, HEITEC's contribution to these system solutions does not end with the provision of the hardware alone: HEITEC offers the customer long-term delivery capability and product stability by means of special logistics services. HEITEC consistently implements all restrictive processes applicable to medical technology during development and production. Developments for medical technology products are based on the standards EN ISO 13485, EN ISO14971, EN 60601-1 and EN 62304, which apply to quality and risk management, safety, including the key performance characteristics and life cycle processes of medical electrical devices. The task is not finished with the product design - medical devices usually have to be kept operational for many years. This means that lifecycle management must be designed for the long term.
In terms of technology, the decision was made in favour of a classic 19" industrial PC standard for the system solution, whose compact, robust structure is ideally suited to the demanding, high-availability and high-precision application as well as the complex software requirements. However, some adaptations to the standard hardware were necessary in this case, e.g. the customer wanted dedicated cut-outs on the rear of the housing for additional connections for the complex data processing. Better ventilation was achieved by specially mounting the graphics cards. The housing was also designed to be EMC-tight in order to minimise the risk of approval.
