Energy optimisation of an energy-plus housing estate at system level
The aim of the project is to holistically optimise the use of energy in an energy-plus housing estate. By intelligently coordinating the electricity, heating and cooling sectors and taking into account generation, consumption and storage technologies, the aim is to maximise energy efficiency. A particular focus is on optimising the use of grid capacities in the residential area and taking regulatory framework conditions into account. A cross-sectoral real-time simulation model of the residential area forms the basis for the analyses. The coupling with real measurement data enables the development of a digital twin that allows extensive simulations and the optimisation of algorithms even before real operation.
Realisation
As part of the project, a comprehensive simulation model of the Energy Plus estate is being developed and coupled with real-time measurements. This creates a digital twin that enables detailed analyses for optimising operations. HEITEC Innovations GmbH is responsible in particular for thermal modelling and integration into the digital twin. A coordinated measurement concept is used to develop, optimise and automatically implement energy management strategies. Other project partners contribute their respective expertise in electricity grid modelling, economic and regulatory framework conditions, simulation technology and acceptance research. The interdisciplinary co-operation enables a comprehensive consideration of all relevant influencing factors.
Customer benefits
The optimisation of energy management leads to a more efficient use of existing resources and a reduction in operating costs. The simulation-supported development of control algorithms allows energy use to be flexibly adapted to different requirements. At the same time, the integration of a digital twin improves the planning and control of energy communities so that existing neighbourhoods can also benefit from the findings. The insights gained offer valuable recommendations for operators, municipal utilities and investors who want to realise sustainable and economically viable energy systems.
