Development of a standardised test station

To optimise product testing capabilities, our customer required a standardised test station capable of performing in-circuit and functional tests for a wide range of products. This station needed to accommodate various test fixtures and provide a streamlined, repeatable test process. By implementing this standardised test setup, our customer wanted to improve the efficiency, accuracy and scalability of product testing.

Realisation

In the software phase, the team developed a test environment using LabView and automated test sequences using TestStand.

Python scripts were written to enable MES communication, data reporting and a user-friendly interface for operators to ensure smooth interaction and quick access to results.

On the hardware side, the engineers created detailed wiring and circuit diagrams, schematics and 3D PCB layouts to ensure high precision and reliability. Simulation tools were used to validate the circuit designs, while the station was equipped with connection, flash and logic test functions. This ensured comprehensive test coverage for each product, from basic circuit integrity to functional logic validation.

In the mechanical development phase, the team modelled the mechanical components of the station and created accurate production data and 2D drawings. Each design element was optimised for ease of assembly and durability to ensure that the test station could withstand heavy use over time. The collaboration between software, hardware and mechanical design resulted in a self-contained, fully functional test station that met all of the customer's requirements.

The automated test sequences, the comprehensive reporting system and the user-friendly interface have rationalised product testing and significantly reduced the time required for quality assurance. The modular design of the station supports the testing of different products and offers scalability as the customer's product range expands. This facility has also improved testing accuracy, ensuring consistent product quality and enabling the customer to meet stringent industry standards.
