Production and testing of automation cabinets for air-conditioning an offshore wind platform

Portfolio: Power technologies
Industries: Power Generation and Distribution

CHALLENGE

BorWin3 is an offshore wind farm in the North Sea with a transmission capacity of up to 900 megawatts. With the BorWin3 project, almost one million German households will be supplied with wind power starting in 2019.
A consortium comprising Siemens AG and Petrofac International from the United Arab Emirates is implementing the complete production of an HVDC (high-voltage direct current) platform. Power from offshore wind energy plants is being transported practically loss-free to the mainland, where the enerty is converted to AC and fed into the grid.

IMPLEMENTATION

To provide air-conditioning to the platform, Siemens put HEITEC in charge of the engineering and production of the control cabinets as well as power automation of the platform.
HEITEC generated all the documentation in E-Plan P8 and produced over 26 switch panels for the AC system.
HEITEC was also commissioned by Petrofac International to provide the lighting distribution board on the platform and a connection box for an emergency diesel generator.

CUSTOMER BENEFIT

  • High production quality and documentation of the interface to other plants
  • Reduction of modification effort and costs
