Assembly plant for electrically assisted steering systems

CHALLENGE

For the Slovakian plant of the American automotive supplier company TRW Automotive, HEITEC developed a system for assembling segments of an electric motor for electrically assisted steering systems.

IMPLEMENTATION

The fully automated system designed by HEITEC assembles segments comprising plastic top and bottom covers and a metal core. The segments’ top and bottom covers are automatically aligned in a vibrating conveyor. 
A separate conveyor supplying 60 parts per minute was designed for all types of plastic covers. 
Using a feeding system specially developed by HEITEC, the parts are transported to the assembly site, picked up by the original system by means of two grippers, and shifted across onto the metal core.
